No change in TNCC leadership now

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JUNE 18. The Congress high command has ruled out any change in the leadership structure of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee at present, putting at rest media speculation.

An assurance to the effect was given by the AICC general secretary in-charge of the State, Kamal Nath, in a letter to both the TNCC president, S. Balakrishnan, and the working president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan.

The State leaders had rushed to the capital following reports quoting Mr. Kamal Nath that Mr. Balakrishnan would soon be replaced and the entire leadership structure revamped.

But the high command after extensive discussions announced that the present team would continue.

Initially, a change of guard was contemplated following complaints of fragmentation among leaders, and both Mr. Balakrishnan and Mr. Elangovan were at loggerheads.
