KU Syndicate flays HC directive

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM JUNE 19. The Kerala University Syndicate, which met here today, has said that it is unfair for the managements to prevent the organisational freedom of the students in the wake of the Kerala High Court verdict.

The meeting decided to apprise the court of the Syndicate's opinion.

The meeting, in a resolution, demanded the Government to direct the self-financing professional colleges that the managements should collect only the fees prescribed by the Government in the merit seats.

The fees in self-financing colleges is much higher than that in the Government and aided colleges.

The University College of Engineering at Kariyavattom, though is a self-financing college, is collecting only the fees fixed by the Government for admission in merit quota.

This should be made applicable to other colleges too, the meeting said.

There were certain doubts about the difference in fees rate for the same course.

Different fee rates are in force in management and merit seats in certain States including Karnataka.

The self-financing colleges have given a written assurance to the university that admission to 50 per cent seats will be in merit quota and would collect fees only at the rate fixed by the Government or university, the meeting said.
