DDA to develop shopping malls

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JUNE 19. Delhi Development Authority has planned development of two shopping malls, a department store, a crafts bazaar and an entertainment complex besides multilevel parking at Vasant Kunj on Nelson Mandela Road adjacent to Grand Hyatt Hotel here.

Announcing this, DDA said the various commercial units would be set up under an overall scheme of development of Vasant Vihar Phase Ii which is planned over an area of 92 hectares.

On the Vasant Kunj Mall located in the heart of South Delhi, it said seven commercial plots (on about 20 hectares) are already ready for disposal. Stating that M/s Rajinder Kumar and Associates have been appointed as Architect Consultant for the project, DDA said the shopping portion would be linear with its greater edge on the major artery.

The main design features of the shopping mall will include a central pedestrian spine that runs along the side linking all the major activities, each of which has been so planned that it gets maximum visibility from the walkway. Moreover, all the plots will have dedicated parking besides drop-off facilities and the focus of development will be centred on an entrance court in the middle from which all the components will be easily accessible.
