Erring colleges to lose recognition

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE JUNE 20. The Minister for Higher Education, G. Parameshwar, said today that the Government had no "soft corner" for managements of private professional colleges which were planning to go ahead with admission of students in violation of rules.

Addressing presspersons here today, he said university affiliation and recognition of colleges concerned would be withdrawn if managements of private collects admitted students in defiance of rules formulated by the Government. "I hope the situation does not come to such a stage,'' he added. Dr. Parameshwar said that the Government would not compromise on fee structure and allocation of seats. It was ready to go to any extent to implement its order. However, all problems would be solved if the managements cooperated with the Government and followed the admission rules.

The managements of private colleges had filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the admission rules, and the matter would come for hearing on Monday, he added.

The minister said the CET results would be declared on June 25. "We are ready with the results, and now verification is going on,'' he added.

Varsity for women

Dr. Parameshwar said that the newly established women's university would start functioning in July. A special officer had been appointed to make arrangements to start the admission process. About 30 colleges that fell under Belgaum and Gulbarga divisions would be affiliated to the university. About 150 acres of land had been identified to construct office buildings, he said.

To a question on the appointment of the vice-chancellor of the university, he said there were many women aspirants for the post. Dr. Parameshwar said Hudco had agreed to release a Rs. 20-crore loan to construct additional buildings for first grade government colleges in the State.
