'Declare Pondy LS seat as reserved'

Pondicherry June 20. The president of Pondicherry based National Integrated Dalit Forum, V. P. M. Samy said here today that he had presented a memorandum to the Delimitation Commission during its sitting here today urging the Commission to declare the lone Lok Sabha seat here as reserved constituency.

It is now a general seat. Stating that the Department of Census had not released the total population of Scheduled Caste on the basis of 2001 census. According to 1991 census the total population of SC in Pondicherry was 1,31,278.

The SC population should have increased considerably to over 3 lakhs which `is one third of the total population of 9,73,829' as provisionally pointed out in the 2001 census figures.
