No trusts or fan clubs please, says President

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JUNE 20. Reacting to reports of some trusts and fan clubs dedicated to him by name, the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, today disapproved of such moves describing them as ``highly inappropriate.''

``Such individuals and groups may kindly note this and desist from these moves forthwith.

Instead, they should engage themselves in tasks of nation-building through development programmes, specifically aimed at ameliorating the lot of the needy and the underprivileged.

The President expects that his sentiments will be honoured in letter and spirit,'' his Secretariat said in a statement here.

It took note of a number of organisations from various parts of the country submitting requests for naming educational institutions, private and public buildings, major public works, institutes and villages in the President's name.

``The President considers such moves highly inappropriate and hence totally disapproves of them,'' it said.
