By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD June 20. The Cambridge University Press (CUP), the oldest printing and publishing house in the world, has now a presence in the city with its strategic partner, the Foundation Books, opening its sixth branch on Friday. Peter Davison, director, Asia Cambridge University Press, formally inaugurated the new branch at Hyderguda by lighting the lamp.

A large number of academicians, educationists and book lovers were present on the occasion. To mark the celebrations, eminent linguist and former Vice-Chancellor, Hyderabad University, Bh. Krishnamurti, was felicitated. The CUP recently published his book, The Dravidian Languages. M.L. Tickoo, senior ELT expert, also released the South Asian edition of the Cambridge Advanced Learner's dictionary. Besides distributing the CUP books in India, the Foundation Books would reprint the best selling CUP books and make them available to readers in South Asia at affordable prices and try to develop authorship, said Manas Saikia, its chief executive officer.

Under the Cambridge low priced editions programme, Mr. Saikia said selected internationally popular titles would be made available to students and teachers of South Asia and Africa. Cambridge Learner's Dictionary and English Pronouncing Dictionary by Daniel Jones are two of the popular titles now available under the programme. A publishing division is also established at the new branch.
