Stone pieces hit children

BANGALORE June 20. Flying stone pieces hit two children and a few houses when a quarry was blasted in Kogilu Layout in Chikkajala Police Station limits in Bangalore Rural District on Friday morning.

Police said Ajmal Khan (6), son of Mohammed Khan, was hit on the head, while Mubarak (5) was hit on his leg when the quarry workers blasted a rocky hill using gelatin sticks.

Mr. Mohammed Khan has lodged a complaint against the owner of the quarry, Abbayyanna, saying that the explosions were conducted without precautionary measures.

The people from the layout, who are becoming targets of quarry blasts frequently, staged a demonstration and threw stones at two lorries transporting stone from the quarry.

Stating that five or six houses were damaged in today's explosion, they demanded that the quarrying near the houses be stopped immediately.
