The protesting employees owing allegiance to the DTC Workers' Unity Centre arrived at the venue of the meeting between the DTC and PTDC officials at the DTC Headquarters this afternoon and began raising slogans against the DTC management and the Delhi Government. Blocking the only gate to the complex, some of them lay on the path to block the way of the visiting delegates. Senior DTC officials arrived and assured them that the salaries for May, which have not been paid, would be released soon. At this, the agitating employees dispersed peacefully. Incidentally, the Secretary of the State Transport Authority, P.C. Jain, had met the DTC Chairman and Managing Director, A.J.S. Sahney, on Thursday. Mr Sahney told The Hindu that the Delhi Government which had only released around Rs. 25 crores for three month's salary as against the monthly requirement of about Rs. 14 crores a month had now taken steps to prevent financial crisis. While due to the cut on payment, the salaries for the months of February, March and April were delayed forcing the DTC to channelise funds from other sources such as the Provident Fund for payment of salaries the salary for May was delayed as an amicable settlement could not be reached.
