Kalam's gesture

NEW DELHI JUNE 21. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, has granted Rs. 1 lakh for the ailing shehnai maestro, Bismillah Khan.

The grant was sent by the President along with a letter wishing the artiste speedy recovery, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman said today.

Our Bangalore Special Correspondent writes:

The Karnataka Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, announced Rs. 2 lakhs from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the maestro.
