The six-page report which gave details of the ASI findings , said these anomalies were found in 46 of the 84 trenches at a considerable depth. Structural evidence was found at the upper strata in 26 trenches. The report said pillar bases and drains were also found in some of the trenches . The ASI had been directed by the High Court to undertake excavations near the disputed site at Ayodhya to find out if there was evidence of the presence of any structures predating the Babri mosque.
