The BWSSB Chairman, M.N. Vidyashankar, told presspersons here today that the board personnel and the police have begun a check on the banks of the river. The terrain was difficult as it was covered by thick forest, he said. A team from the board was monitoring the water released from the Kabini to the Netkal Reservoir, he said. There were some permanent barrages in between but the board had got the gates of the dams opened to facilitate water supply to the City, Mr. Vidyashankar said. To a question, he said that a temporary barrage might have been put up using sand bags to divert water for irrigation. The board had not faced such a situation in the past, he noted and expressed confidence that the point of diversion would be detected soon and appropriate action taken against the culprits.
