Uttam Sharma, Nilavoli win titles

CHENNAI JUNE 22. R. Uttam Sharma (7 points) of Thiruvallur and H. Nilavoli (7.5) of Chennai won the boy's and girl's titles respectively in the 32nd Tamil Nadu State junior (u-19) chess championship, jointly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Madras Central and the SBOA MHSS, which concluded at the SBOA School on Sunday.

It was Uttam's maiden State title and Nilavoli's second crown this year after her success in the State under-25 meet last month.

P. Karthikeyan also finished with seven points but was placed second behind Uttam on progressive score.

The top four in each section will represent the State in the forthcoming junior Nationals.
