Rain disrupts rail traffic

By Our Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD JUNE 22. Heavy rains have washed away the blue metal beneath the tracks at Udma near here, halting the rail traffic between Kannur and Mangalore completely. The original track in this route was closed coinciding with the opening of the newly-laid track a couple of months ago. Thanks to the untimely renovation work of a culvert on the original track, the traffic could not be diverted through this track.

The railway authorities are busy restoring the traffic connecting the Konkan route. They are also trying to restore traffic through the original track. Trains bound for Mangalore were terminated at Neeleswaram. They are the Chennai-Mangalore mail and the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Malabar Express.

The traffic block in this route has also resulted in the termination of long distance trains in the Konkan route via Kasaraogd.

The Kurla Express and Mangala Express were rerouted through the Shoranur route.
