Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Special Correspondent
The club felicitated about a dozen of its members who have been into film production in various ways. It followed the screening of four off-beat films in Kannada made by members of the club on Saturday and Sunday. Speakers said that it had been proved that journalists were not mere armchair critics of films and that they could make quality films on their own. The noted Kannada film director, Girish Kasaravalli, said that the new wave cinema owed its origin to a group of journalists in France. The Chairman of the Legislative Council, B.L.Shankar, said that journalism was creativity and it was no wonder that its practitioners could make quality films. The Kannada film star, Vishnuvardhan, the president of the club, A.Jayaram, its vice-president, K.Sadashiva Shenoy, and its general secretary, M.A.Ponnappa, spoke. Y.G.Ashok Kumar conducted the programme. Those felicitated on the occasion were the veteran journalist, S.G.Mysoremath, who has acted in some notable films, the film directors, Inderjit, Prakash Belawadi, and Shankar, the artiste, J.S.Narayana Rao, and the story writers, G.S.Sadashiv and Ashwathanarayan.
