Speaking after releasing the memoirs of B.V.Abdulla Koya at a function organised by the B.V.Abdulla Koya Foundation and Face Calicut, here this evening, Mr. Karunakaran said that personalities like Abdulla Koya and Mohammed Koya had done their best to bridge the communal divide between the Muslims and Hindus during the riots at Thalassery years ago. "Then we did not wait for the law enforcing agencies to come forward to handle the situation. Instead, we went ahead to douse the flames of communal passion that existed between the two communities and rehabilitated all the victims. The same formula be applied to Marad too,'' he added. Mr. Karunakaran urged that the authorities rehabilitate all the victims instead of viewing the issue from a different angle. The plight of the victims of the families of those killed in the carnage at Marad and the displaced people at Kappakkal should be seen in a single picture. The IUML and the Congress party should think on the same lines, he added. He said that the Marad incident had led to an uneasy communal situation in the State which had not been felt even after the demolition of the Babri Masjid years ago. A hidden agenda unheard of in the past was being implemented in the State, Mr. Karunakaran, said. He also took a dig at the Industries Minister, P.K.Kunhalikutty, who presided over the function, when the latter intervened in his speech to comment on sustaining a coalition Government without collapsing. Mr. Karunakaran said that people should not forget the past in this regard. Mr. Karunakaran released the memoirs by handing over a copy to Pravasi League State president, Haji K. Mammed Faizi. The IUML, general secretary, E. Ahmed, MP, delivered the Abdulla Koya Memorial Lecture. The Ministers, P. Sankaran and M.K.Muneer, and P.K.K.Bava, MLA, spoke at the function.
