Tusker tramples man to death

MADIKERI JUNE 22. Madhavan (60) was trampled to death by a wild tusker at Adinadur in Somwarpet taluk on Sunday when he was repairing a fence.

The elephant, which destroyed the defunct solar fence, was spotted by some people, including Shivadas, the brother of the dead. The animal was chased back, but it returned from the Banavara side at 9.30 a.m. when Madhavan was repairing the fence and it suddenly attacked him. He died on the spot, according to sources.

Later, people staged a protest and demanded that action be taken against a Forest Department personnel who did not cooperate. The body was shifted to a mortuary in Kushalnagar where people staged a protest against the Forest Department.

The Somwarpet Range Forest Officer and Madikeri Division Deputy Conservator of Forests, G.S.Yadav, pacified the crowd. A sum of Rs.5,000 was given to the kin of the victim as relief.
