Former MP's office ransacked

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH June 22. Some persons broke into the office of the former Congress MP of Rajampet, A. Sai Prathap, located on his residential premises at Krishnappa Nagar near the Cuddapah railway station in the early hours of Sunday, opened four almirahs and ransacked them. However, no important documents or articles were missing.

Several documents kept in the almirahs and wooden table drawers in his two-room mining-cum-political office were strewn around, according to a complaint lodged with the Chintakommadinne police. This apart, the locks of a storeroom and kitchen situated on the rear side of the premises were also found opened. The culprits left all the lights on and removed batteries from a wall clock, possibly for use in a pen torch. The clock was stopped at 9 p.m., but Mr. Sai Prathap suspected that the culprits might have gained entry in the early hours.

Files containing election agents' photographs and other poll-related papers of the previous Parliamentary elections and copies of representations submitted by him to the Union Government, Lok Sabha and officials were also checked and strewn around, he said. The gun licence application papers were removed from a bag and left in a window. A very old and strong Jackson almirah was also opened.

The former MP, who is far from controversies, wondered what could be the motive of the culprits as no important document or article was found missing. He suspected that the culprits might have spent over two to three hours in his office room for verifying almost every document available. The documents verified included those indicating his preparation to contest the next Parliamentary elections. Mr. Sai Prathap said he was in the office until 8.30 p.m. on Saturday talking to some party functionaries of Chintakommadinne mandal who came to meet him.
