Centre allows Pondy to utilise CST revenue

Pondicherry June 22. The Centre had permitted in principle the Union Territory Administration to utilise the Central Sales tax mobilised here, the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy has said. Inaugurating a conference to generate awareness on environment organised by the Pondicherry Sembadugai Nanniragam at Muthirayarpalayam near here today, the Chief Minister said that the CST mobilised here amounted to Rs 70 crores a year and if this was available consequent to the clearance in principle available from the Centre, the revenue of Pondicherry would shoot up.

The Government was keen on preserving environment and also safeguarding the water sources, he said and asserted that industries posing threat to storage of subsoil water and also environment would never be permitted anywhere in the Union Territory. He said chemical industries would not at all be permitted hereafter as had been decided by the Government.
