Two drowned in Adambakkam lake

Chennai June 22. Two youths fell into the Adambakkam lake and drowned on Sunday while they were running away from a `volatile crowd' which was being pursued by the police.

The local residents said police was chasing away a group of youths belonging to Ambedkar Nagar and Bhavani Nagar as they were allegedly involved in a fracas near the lake. The duo was found themselves in the melee and attempted to escape when they fell into the lake, said S. Harikrishnan, DYFI area committee secretary, who visited the spot.

They were identified as Senthil (21), a painter, and Satheesh (18), running an iron shop.

Fire service personnel recovered the body of Senthil but left the spot soon after, abandoning the search for the second youth, also believed drowned, he added.
