Clock Tower park to get new look

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD June 22. The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad will spend about Rs. 1 crore for developing Clock Tower park in Secunderabad and turning it into a heritage square with greenery and water fountains.

The MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran, who inspected the ongoing work under the Secunderabad division, asked officials to complete the park in next three months. She wanted the original structure to be protected and maintained even while making improvements nearby.

She reviewed the road-widening works between Clock Tower and Secunderabad station, Alexander Road, Passport Office, Mahbubia College, Patny, and R.P. Road. The Commissioner visited the congested front side of the railway station and told officials to construct a central median and provide greenery in coordination with other departments, including the Railways. To a request by residents of West Marredpally for developing the colony park, a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs was sanctioned and the welfare association agreed to maintain the park. A proposal for developing a park in East Marredpally was also accepted.

Later, Ms. Ramachandran held a meeting with the Additional Commissioners -- Chandravadan, Usha Rani and Malsur -- to review the progress of works, an official spokesman said.
