Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Staff Reporter
According to the Board, at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday, the water level at Netkal Balancing Reservoir increased from 606.15 m to 606.55 m. Besides, water flow substantially increased at Talakadu and Dhanagere. The level also went up at the Shiva Anicut. The water level at the reservoir was below two m two days ago. Today, two pumps at Cauvery Stage I, two at Stage II and three at Stage III pumped about 315 million litres of water per day to Bangalore. Once water at the reservoir rose to 607.50 m, two pumps of Cauvery Stage IV, Phase I, would be pressed into service to help improve water supply to western parts of Bangalore and BTM Layout, the Board Chairman, M.N.Vidyashankar, said. At present, to ensure that these areas got at least minimum water supply, the Board was pumping water from Malleswaram to Kethamaranahalli thereby giving water to Rajajinagar, Mahalaxmi Layout and Nandini Layout. Water was being supplied from Bull Temple Reservoir to Kengeri. Water (about 26 million litres per day) from TG Halli was being supplied to West of Chord Road and Vijayanagar areas. Water was also being supplied through tankers in the affected areas. Pumping in all stages of the Cauvery Scheme would be stepped up after the water level increased, the Board said.
