NEW DELHI JUNE 23. The Congress today expressed its disappointment at the BJP's decision not to advance the next Lok Sabha elections. "We are disappointed that they decide not to advance the polls, it helps them extend their misrule,'' said the party spokesperson, Jaipal Reddy. The Congress' comments on the issue are being viewed as an attempt by the party to gain a psychological edge over the BJP on the issue of the next general elections. "Early polls are the only way to relieve the nation of the BJP's misrule,'' he said. The party gave the impression that the BJP had baulked at the idea of early polls because it was not confident of returning to power. "It's a stratagem to extend their rule,'' said Mr. Reddy. The party also picked holes in the recently concluded "Chintan shivir'' of the BJP saying it was conducted in the context of "intractable differences and irreversible political decline.''Mr. Reddy described the manner in which Vajpayee, Advani and Venkaih Naidu went out of their way to heap praise on each other as "awkward attempt to conceal their differences."
