Gehlot's trip cleared

By Sunny Sebastian

JAIPUR JUNE 24. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has cleared the visit of the Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, to New York to attend the International Rajasthani Sammelan starting on July 4.There was uncertainty about Mr. Gehlot's proposed visit along with a 12-member delegation including three senior ministers, as the MEA had initially refused him permission to go abroad without ascribing any reason.

The permission came late on Monday night, with the letter clearing the trip giving no details.

"It was a two-line letter from the MEA clearing the trip," said a senior official of the Chief Minister's Office here. Mr. Gehlot and his team members are likely to leave for New York on July 1.

Mr. Gehlot had announced his decision not to go as a private citizen as advised by the MEA, while refusing him permission. This is Mr. Gehlot's first trip after taking over the reins in the State in November 1998.
