BJP MLAs lathicharged

By Our Staff Reporter

Shimla June 25. The BJP MLAs in Himachal, led by the former Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal, were lathicharged today on the historic Ridge maidan where they assembled to observe a `black day' to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency. Many BJP workers were taken into police custody for defying prohibitory orders.

When the MLAs reached the venue, they started raising slogans against the anti-people policies of the Congress Government led by the Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh. When Mr. Dhumal began addressing the gathering a scuffle started between the police and the party workers. The police tried to round up the leaders and this led to an exchange of blows between the cadre and police.
