Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Special Correspondent
In a statement here today, Mr. Viswom said he had sought action for breach of privileges of the House by the Chief Minister for his having mislead the House on the question of release of forestland for distribution among Adivasis. The Chief Minister, had told the House on June 24 that the Centre had agreed to release 25,000 acres of land for the purpose and that this was a `one-time settlement', Mr. Viswom said. However, the Union Forests Director, M.K. Mishra, told Asianet news channel the same day that no such assurance had been given to the Kerala Government. Mr. Mishra had also stated that no such decision had been taken at the three meetings of the Forests Advisory Committee and the same would not figure at the meeting to be held today. Under the circumstances, the Chief Minister's statement amounted to breach of the privilege of the House to know the truth, Mr. Viswom said and offered to produce the video tape of the interview with Mr. Mishra, if necessary.
