Students lock up govt. college

By Our Staff Correspondent

HASSAN JUNE 26. Activists of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) locked up the Government Science College here on Thursday in protest against the "extra" fee of Rs. 500. They staged a dharna in front of the college and urged the authorities to stop the collection of extra fee from students as decided by the betterment committee of the college. The Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, Govindaiah, who rushed to the spot, tried to pacify the students.

While addressing students, he said that as the college was not recognised by the Government, it had become inevitable for the betterment committee to collect Rs. 500 as extra fee to pay honorarium to the part-time teachers.
