No restructuring of FCI: Minister

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI June 26. The Union Food Minister, Sharad Yadav, today ruled out any restructuring of the Food Corporation of India and said that the Centre would instead focus on removing the various shortcomings in the public distribution system.

"The question of restructuring of FCI does not arise. Only its functioning will be improved within the existing framework and steps taken to help the States improve their PDS systems,'' he said.

Speaking to a group of presspersons here, Mr. Yadav, who had recently undertaken a nationwide tour to study country's food management system, said one of the major problems was that too many State agencies were involved in the distribution of foodgrains before they reached the fair price shops.
