The Bureau today also confirmed the arrest of a senior IAS officer, Ajit Mohan Sharan, in Delhi under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Interestingly, both Rao Narbir Singh and Mr.Marya had served as Ministers in two successive governments headed by the Haryana Vikas Party supremo,Bansi Lal, and the present Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, till the Assembly was dissolved in December 1999. According to highly-placed sources, the two leaders who had played a key role in bringing Mr.Chautala to power by pulling down the Bansi Lal regime had soon fallen out with the INLD supremo. While Mr. Marya was produced before the Additional Sessions Judge,Panchkula, H.S. Bhangu,yesterday and remanded in police custody for two days, Rao Narbir Singh was produced today and remanded to police custody till June 29. Mr. Sharan has also been remanded in police custody. According to the press note, Rao Narbir Singh has been charged with amassing property worth Rs.79.25 lakhs in the form of agriculture land and house disproportionate to his known sources of Income. Mr.Sharan, a former Managing Director of the Haryana Financial Corporation,has been charged along with other employees causing wrongful loss worth Rs 97.07 crores by violating the rules and procedures and awarding wrongful gains to the beneficiary firms and shareholders during his tenure as HFC Managing Director.
