The institutions were Hyundai Motor India Limited, the Cognizant Technology Solutions India, and the M.O.P. Vaishnav College. Mr. G.S. Ramesh of Hyundai Motor, S.N. Lakshmi Narayanan of Cognizant Technology and Nirmala Prasad of Vaishnav College received the awards. N. Sankar, chairman, Sanmar Group, distributed the awards to the winners and to MBA toppers of the Anna University and the Madras University. Delivering a lecture on "Managerial Excellence", Mr. Sankar said with the opening of the Indian economy in early 1990s, traditional management mindsets changed. The emergence of many new global players forced entrepreneurs to reorient their priorities to remain in the market. At the dawn of the 21st century, only the entrepreneurs and managements, who were able to foresee the pace of growth of new opportunities and build businesses to capitalise on them, were victorious. Hospitals, educational institutions run by NGOs in rural India and the service sector also required managerial excellence. The award winners, he said, had excelled in their fields amidst stiff competition from peers.
