Granting stay on an appeal by the directors, the Bench, comprising the Chief Justice, B. Subhashan Reddy, and Justice K. Govindarajan, said: "Senior counsel, G. Masilamani, says the fine amount has been paid. Hence there shall be an interim stay relating to the imprisonment until further orders." On June 18, Justice E. Padmanabhan awarded a three-month imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000 each on K. Vydhianathan, R.M. Chockalingam and A.R. Chidambaram for their ``failure to honour an undertaking given before a Division Bench at the time of obtaining bail for the MCC Finance Limited chairman and managing director.'' The judge, however, had suspended, for 10 days, the operation of the sentence portion of the order alone so that the contemnors could prefer an appeal.
