100 huts gutted

CHENNAI JUNE 27. Nearly 100 huts were destroyed in a fire near the Porur Retteri this evening. About a dozen fire tenders battled to dowse the flames, sources said and added that no one was hurt.

One of the wires in the 110-kv OHT between Poonamallee and Ashok Nagar was snapped as a result of the blaze. According to sources, the huts had come up on poromboke land adjacent the lake. The cause of the fire was being investigated.
