Kalam's herbal garden gets Meghalaya plants

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JUNE 28. ThePresident, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, is keenly dedicated to promoting the use of herbal medicines.

During a recent visit by farmers and practitioners of herbal medicines from Meghalaya to Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday — during which they had an hour-long interaction with the President — Dr. Kalam asked the Horticulture Department to open a Meghalaya section within the herbal garden.

The first entrants to this new section are over 20 varieties that the farmers — some of whom were from the Khasi School of Medicine, Shillong — presented to the President.

``We have been asked to attempt to grow these plants here,'' said an official. Among other uses, some of these plants presented to the President help in curing heart ailments, stomach problems and women's diseases.
