Letters to the Editor
Sir, Why is our Government so tight-lipped over the issue of sending troops to Iraq? We have committed a historical blunder by sending our troops to Sri Lanka, interfering with the internal affairs of another country, the outcome of which led to the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Though this time the context is different, I find no pretext for sending our troops to Iraq. The devastation in Iraq was the result of the aggression of two countries, the United States and the United Kingdom. They did it alone, even as the whole civilised world stood against them. At that time, the Indian polity said that force was not always justifiable. But now, why are the same men hesitating to say "no" to the U.S? India should not rally behind forces whose policy is to hit and run.
