Sir, I think it would be foolish to think that Dhaka would agree to take back illegal migrants. Dhaka is happy with its ritual of dumping them on us. When communalists here brought down the Babri Masjid, Dhaka's communalists went berserk on the Bangladeshi Hindus. Why would they take back people who have been driven out? There are two ways to halt the illegal immigration. Assimilating the migrants into the mainstream is definitely not one of them, as it will encourage further migration. However, this could be stopped by an extremely vigilant and corruption-free BSF. The migrants should be stopped when they try to cross over and should be sent back. Secondly, regarding migrants whose illegality is proved and whom Dhaka refuses to take back, special detention centres should be set up where they should be kept until permitted to return. There should be no possibility for releasing them.
