Letters to the Editor
Sir, The views of ( M.G. Devasahayam and Mahmood Bin Muhammad ) should open the eyes of all right-thinking people in appraising the faults that have crept into our system of administration. During the British days, the Government framed laws and spelt out its policy. The day-to-day business was carried out by conscientious officers, who were untrammelled by unfair influence. In the present scenario, even the conscientious among the officers find it difficult to resist acquiescence to the compulsions of corrupt politics. The professional knowledge of the IAS and IPS officers is not helpful in implementing projects that require a high degree of specialised expertise, and they generally escape being held accountable, as most of them can only follow the calculated designs and dictates of their politically expedient masters without dissent.
