Sumit loses in quarterfinals

NEW DELHI JULY 3. Sumit Prakash Gupta lost 3-6, 1-6 to Peerachat Chaiyapan of Thailand in the quarterfinals of the ITF junior tennis tournament in Indonesia last week.

A member of the Indian junior Davis Cup team, Sumit had won three rounds earlier in a draw of 64. He beat Fendi Gunawan of Indonesia 6-3, 6-3; Felix Fernandus of Indonesia 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and Adrian Qi-Hao Tan of Malaysia 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 in the first three rounds in that order.

In doubles, Sumit and Xiao-Peng Lai of Hong Kong lost in the quarterfinals 7-6 (10-8), 5-7, 4-6 to Elbert Sie and Ayrton Wibowo of indonesia after a walkover in the second round from Fajar Bagyastra and Johanes Indra Tholib of Indonesia in the second round. The duo had enjoyed a bye in the first round.

Sandhya Nagaraj lost 5-7, 1-6 to Joana Febri of Indonesia in the girls' first round. In doubles, Sandhya and Dian Mayasari of Indonesia lost 3-6, 3-6 in the second round to Sandy Gumulya and Septi Mende of Indonesia after beating Devina Saedi and Patricia Soesilo of Indonesia 6-0, 6-2.
