Punjab Minister dropped

CHANDIGARH JULY 7. The Punjab Governor, O.P. Verma, today accepted the recommendation of the Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, to remove the Minister of State, Harbans Lal, from his Council of Ministers.

The Minister's dismissal was recommended following his indictment in a departmental inquiry into the felling of trees in Ropar district in collusion with private contractors.

According to a Raj Bhavan communique, Justice Verma also approved reallocation of work among the Ministers of State as proposed by Capt. Amarinder Singh.

The Minister of State, Tript Rajinder Singh, will now have independent charge of Forests, the portfolio held by Harbans Lal.

He will also hold the departments of Social Security and Development of Women & Children and will be attached to the Cabinet Minister, Joginder Singh Mann.

Ramesh Dutt Sharma, another Minister of State, will have independent charge of Removal of Grievances and matters relating to Punjab Pensioners.

He will also look after Transport and will be attached to the Cabinet Minister, Tej Parkash Singh.

For the Department of Cooperation, he will be attached to another Cabinet Minister, Lal Singh.
