The spokesman's comments came after the Pakistan High Commissioner-designate, Aziz Ahmed Khan, announced today that Islamabad had agreed to New Delhi's proposal. Mr. Khan, who will present his credentials to the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on July 10, also called for implementation of a package of confidence-building measures (CBMs) announced by the Pakistan Prime Minister, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, on May 6. These include the restoration of road, rail and air links between the two countries. "We believe that an early implementation of all these CBMs would help in increasing people-to-people contact...'' The spokesman described as "amateurish and puerile'' a report sponsored by the Director, Net Assessment, Office of the (U.S.) Secretary of Defence, on India-U.S. military relations. The Indian military, he said, was an outstanding force and the U.S. had high regard for it. A magazine story on the report was misleading, he added.
