PAC sore over utilisation of NABARD funds

HYDERABAD JULY 11. Members of the Public Accounts Committee who met here on Friday reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the utilisation of some NABARD funds, which amounted to "financial irregularity.'' Referring to the CAG report, the committee members pointed out that Rs.12 crores was spent (under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund) without any budgetary provision of approval of the Supplementary Grants.

Such expenditure would lead to no uniformity in development and hence the Government should stick to a feasible and fool-proof scheme in undertaking the programmes for ensuring uniform development in all constituencies, they felt.

It is learnt that the members also expressed dissatisfaction over the apathy in the implementation of Aadarana scheme. During 1998-99 out of Rs.100 crores budgetary allocation, only Rs.60 crores was released and out of this Rs.40 crores was spent. The next year, for an allocation of Rs.121 crores only Rs.46 crores was spent out a release of Rs.90.75 crores.

The next two years no allocation was made and during 2002-2003 only Rs.75 crores was allocated but not released. They hoped the merger of the scheme now with `Velugu' programme might lead to a positive result.
