Earlier on Thursday, top-seeded Roger Federer dispatched France's Jean-Rene Lisnard 6-1, 6-2 for his 14th consecutive victory and a place in the quarterfinals. It marked the first time in six appearances in Gstaad that Federer has reached the quarterfinals. ``I haven't won too many matches here in Gstaad, but I had a lot of confidence from Wimbledon,'' said Federer, the Wimbledon champion who leads the ATP circuit with five titles and 52 wins this season. Defending champion Alex Corretja was toppled 6-4, 6-4 by Spanish compatriot David Sanchez, while second-seeded Rainer Schuettler advanced with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory over Belgium's Christophe Rochus.
Paes-Rikl duo in semifinals
Leander Paes and David Rikl cruised into the doubles semifianls with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sebastian Prieto of Argentina and Andre Sa of Brazil. The Indo-Czech combination will meet Petr Pala and Pavel Vizner of the Czech Republic in the semifinals. The results: Jiri Novak bt Juan Ignacio Chela 6-3, 6-3.
