Civil court inaugurated at Basavanabagewadi

BASAVANABAGEWADI (BIJAPUR DT.) JULY 12. The Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, N.K. Jain, inaugurated the Civil Court (Senior Division) here on Saturday.

Later addressing a meeting, Mr. Justice Jain said the opening of the court would be of great help to the people of Basavanabagewadi taluk who otherwise had to go to Bijapur.

The High Court judge, Justice K. Ramanna, who is also the administrative judge of Bijapur District, called upon the members of the Basavanabagewadi Bar Council to utilise the opportunity and serve those who approached them seeking justice.

Referring to the popular saying "justice delayed is justice denied", the Minister for Agricultural Marketing, B.S. Patil Sasanur, who is also the district in-charge, said that with the opening of the Civil Court (Senior Division), a long felt need of the taluk had been fulfilled. The District and Sessions Judge, Basavantharaya Patil, spoke. The taluk Bar association President, M.Y. Pattanashetti, proposed a vote of thanks.

Earlier, Mr. Justice Jain inaugurated a workshop on `Advocacy skills for junior advocates' in Bijapur.

Pointing out that law was a noble profession, Mr. Justice Jain said advocates should not think they were perfect.

Learning was a continuous process, and updating knowledge was the key to a successful practice.

Lawyers represented not just their clients but truth and justice. They were answerable to their conscience. Their aim should be not just winning the case but also ensuring justice, he said.

The President of the Karnataka Bar Council, Basavaraj Uded, said advocates should not hesitate to use Kannada in their arguments.

The Chairman of the Bijapur Bar Council, M.G. Mathapati, in his welcome speech, explained the objectives of the training programme.

The High Court Registrar, K.B. Kabbin, and the Secretary, Bijapur Bar Council, Padtare, were present.
