Senior police official dead

HYDERABAD July 13. A senior IPS officer, Inspector-General (Organisation), Satyendra Pratihast, died in the early hours of Sunday following a heart attack. He was 45.

Mr. Pratihast, who was staying at the A.P. Police Officers' Mess, complained of pain at about 1.15 a.m. He was rushed to Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, but doctors there declared him brought dead. Mr. Pratihast attended office on Saturday also. He was said to be unwell for a while.

Born in Bihar, Mr. Pratihast belonged to the 1983 batch of IPS. He had served as ASP in Vijayawada, Adoni in Kurnool and Penukonda in Anantapur district, SP, Mahbubnagar, and as DCP, Hyderabad. He worked as Assistant Director at the National Police Academy here, SP, Security, and as SP, Railways in Guntakal and Secunderabad.

He headed the 6th battalion of the A.P. Special Police and as DIG, he worked in Training and Welfare sections of the police before being elevated to IGP.
