Stating that the mediation carried out by the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswati, was bound to fail, Mr. Chandra Shekhar ruled out the possibility of his mediating in the issue. "I did not have any hopes in the Sankaracharya's proposal, so I was not disappointed when the offer failed," he told mediapersons after addressing a seminar here on the World Trade Organisation. None had approached him with an offer to mediate. Even if he were requested he would not be pleased to mediate as the situation had been brought to the present impasse by others. "Paristhiti koi aur paida kare aur ham use suljhane ki koshish karein, hum itne moorkh nahin hain. (I am not such a fool to try to resolve the matter complicated by others)." Asked about the possible solution to the dispute, he said he was not in a position to comment, as he was not in touch with the warring parties. On the dangers of the new economic policy, he said one-third of the population of the country, which was not linked with the domestic market, was being thrown open to the volatility in the world economy. In the current scheme of things, information technology and share markets would rule the roost despite the fact that the two sectors did not produce anything directly. UNI
