The Directorate of Health gave the following update for other districts: Nizamabad 8, Adilabad, Krishna, Medak and Nalgonda 3 each, Mahbubnagar and Nellore 2. Our Karimnagar Staff Reporter writes: One more child succumbed to the mystery viral fever and another child died due to gastroenteritis at the Government Headquarters Hospital in Karimnagar on Sunday. Addressing a press conference, the Collector, Sumita Dawra, said that B Radhika (5) of Sircilla mandal was admitted to the hospital at about 7.40 am and died while undergoing treatment at 8.15 am. Gopi (4) of Kokkerakunta village in Ramadugu mandal admitted to the hospital on Sunday at 8.05 am died due to gastroenteritis. The condition of G Srinu (5) of Gollapalli mandal is stated to be critical. Meanwhile, the treatment of outpatients came down drastically with only 1,674 patients including 726 children in all Government hospitals of the district. In Karimnagar headquarters hospitals, about 331 children were treated as outpatients. Currently, only 389 children were undergoing treatment as in-patients in all Government hospitals, including 165 in Karimnagar, 127 in Sircilla, 18 in Jagtial, 23 in Godavarikhani, 48 in Peddapalli, one in Manthani and seven patients in the Metpally hospital. Meanwhile, ABVP activists staged a dharna in front of the district headquarters hospital on Sunday alleging negligence of doctors in the case of the death of Radhika and Gopi . When the situation turned tense, police rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators. Meanwhile, the Bangalore-based National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (NIMHANS) is also collecting samples from Karimnagar district to identify the mystery viral fever which had caused commotion in the district with over 60 deaths within a span of one month. Talking to newsmen here on Sunday evening, the NIMHANS Neuro Virologist, Ravi, said that the results of fresh samples would be made available in one week. Meanwhile, the head of the expert medical team for management of epidemics and encephalitis and chief paediatric neurologist of Niloufer Hospital, Nagabhushanam, PATH, an international voluntary organisation funded by the Gates Foundation, representatives, Vijay Kumar and Raja Kumar, visited various villages to collect samples and study the viral fever.
