The committee members arrived in the district on a two-day visit this morning. The panel members accompanied by district officials inspected the ongoing works undertaken by the Panchayat Raj, Road and Buildings, Rural Water Supply and Irrigation department. The panel visited Lingapur village and Uthnoor in Kamareddy division, where they saw the progress of FFW scheme. The panel members also inspected a road laid at a cost of Rs. 60 lakhs covering a distance of 7 km. They also saw the laying of road from Dichpalli to Nizamabad. The Government has sanctioned Rs. 6 crores for the road. The panel left for the Sriramsagar project at Pochampad to inspect the dam lining works and the Flood Flow canal progress. Speaking to newsmen after a review meeting, Mr. Raghurami Reddy, said that as part of Godavari water utilisation, the Government had proposed the Guthpa and Alisagar LI schemes to be taken up at a cost of Rs. 145 crores and Rs. 108 crores. He said so far Rs. 12 crores has been allocated for the two schemes. He felt that at least Rs. 100 crores should be allocated in the next budget so that the works could be taken up in phased manner. He said once the two schemes were complete, it would supplement irrigation to an extent of 53,900 acres under the Nizamsagar tailend ayacut. The Estimates committee chief, said that another Rs. 46 crores would be spent to bring into irrigation about 10,000 acres. He said the officials have been asked to prepare estimates and in some cases the tenders were already invited. He said keeping in view the water scarcity and depletion of ground water source, sprinkler and drip irrigation schemes are being recommended to the farmers and the Government was extending subsidy. Reviewing the progress of Rural Road Maintenance grants given to the Zilla Parishad, Mr. Raghurami Reddy, said that a sum of Rs. 2.89 crores was allocated to the district but only a sum of Rs. 70 lakhs was spent last year. The balance amount lapsed and went back to the Government. He advised the officials to utilise whatever funds are released during each quarter to avoid such recurrence. On drought relief, the chairman said Rs. 8 crores was released for the district of which Rs. 7 crores has already been spent. The balance Rs. 1 crore is still with the district administration which could be utilised for relief works. On the performance of Road and Buildings department, he said Rs. 13 crores were sanctioned last year to maintain 1,957-km road in the district. He said 11,000 DWCRA groups in the district were given revolving fund to the tune of Rs. 14 crores. On the welfare of beedi workers, Mr. Raghurami Reddy, said special housing schemes had been sanctioned. In Nizamabad alone, 4,000 houses were sanctioned. The other members of the committee -- Kondabala Koteswara Rao (TDP - Madhira), N.Swamidas (TDP - Tiruvuru), P.Saikalpana (TDP - Giddalur), R.Shoba (TDP - Madanapalle), S.Pitchi Reddy (Congress - Darsi), T.Sanyasi Appala Naidu (Congress - Gajapathinagaram), B.Narayana Reddy (Congress - Anantapur, Bomma Venkateswar (Congress - Indurthi), K.Nagarjuna Reddy (Congress - Cumbum), K.R.Suresh Reddy (Congress - Balkonda) and R.Papa Rao (Sircilla), attended. The District Collector, D.V.Raidu and the Joint Collector, G.Venkatram Reddy, were present.
