Cong. plans Gujarat stir

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD July 14. The Gujarat Pradesh Congress committee has given a call for a state-wide "village bandh'' and "raasta roko'' agitation on August 8 to protest against the "unbearable'' hike in power tariff for the farm sector, school, college and court fees.

Announcing this here today, the Pradesh Congress president, Shankarsinh Waghela, said August 8 had been selected for the "token agitation'' in keeping with the "August Kranti'' anniversary celebrations the next day.

He said if the State Government failed to withdraw the hikes, more agitational programmes would be chalked out later and these would continue till the Government ``reversed the trend.''

The decision for the agitation was taken today at a meeting of the farmers from north Gujarat districts and the Congress leaders and elected representatives from this zone.
