Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
His name was announced by the BJP national secretary, L. Ganesan, who arrived here on Monday to choose the successor to C. Ramachandra Reddy, after day-long consultations with senior functionaries of the party in the State. Mr. Reddy will be formally elected as the president during the State council meeting of the BJP on August 2 and 3. Though the party has sought to avoid an election while choosing the consensus candidate, it has announced the democratic process of receiving nominations from candidates interested in contesting on August 2 and holding elections, if needed, the next day. When it was brought to his notice by newsmen that the former Hanamkonda MP, C. Janga Reddy, had expressed his intention to contest, Mr. Ganesan hinted that he would be persuaded to withdraw. Mr. Ganesan spoke individually to the State office-bearers, MPs, MLAs, district presidents and other senior leaders to gather their views. He later met them collectively to finalise the dates for the State council meeting.
