NEW YORK: Celia Cruz, the "Queen of Salsa", died on Wednesday of a brain tumour. She was 77. Ms. Cruz died in her home at Fort Lee, New Jersey. Ms. Cruz's husband, Pedro Knight, was at her side; the pair had celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on Monday, said her publicist, Blanca Lasalle. Ms. Cruz recorded more than 70 albums. She won best salsa album for ``La Negra Tiene Tumbao'' at last year's Latin Grammy Awards, and won the same award at this year's Grammys. Her other best-known recordings include ``Yerberito Moderno'' and ``Que le Den Candela.'' ``Cubans and Latinos alike can feel proud that with her voice and her wonderful qualities, she showed the world the best of our culture,'' the singer, Gloria Estefan, said. Also called the ``diva of Latin song,'' Ms. Cruz remained energetic late into her career. AP
