The Godavari Pushkarams would occur when jupiter enters Simha (leo) rasi. Officially, the Godavari Pushkarams-2003 would start on July 30 at 12.59 hours because that is the time when jupiter is supposed to enter leo. But according to Madhura Krishnamurthy Sastri, well-known astrologer and founder of the Jyothishya Vignana Kendram here, jupiter entered leo on July 16 at 9.32 am. So, Mr.Sastri along with his family members and others who believe in his school of thought, had a dip in the Godavari at Kotilingalarevu on Wednesday at the fixed time. According to him, the calculation was made according to Surya Siddhantam. But most of the people follow the Chaandra maana Siddhantam according to which the Godavari Pushkarams this time would commence on July 30 at 12.59 hours. There is another school of thought. Sri Tridandi China Jeeyar Swamiji who is a member of a committee constituted by the Endowments Department to decide the date and timing of the Pushkarams opined that the Pushkarams this time would commence on July 23. However, after taking into account all suggestions and in accordance with the opinion of the majority, the Government has declared July 30 as the starting time.
